Summer Starts Early at Sacred Place

We’ve concluded our 9-month journey through the stories of Scripture, so it’s time for summer!

Sorry this email is a day late. I’m still working through some of the planning for this Summer, so I wanted to wait until I had the rest of June planned out a bit more.

Pentecost Sunday is one of ends and beginnings. It concludes the 9-month journey of the Narrative Lectionary which we follow each year to walk through the Story from start to finish. It also begins a new season of responding to the Spirit of God as she moves among us. Though it might be a few weeks early according to the calendar, it also kicks of our summer season.

This summer we’re going to be trying out some new things, so I ask for your patience in advance. Everything we try might not work as well as we hoped. Every Sunday won’t be the same. We’re still finalizing the schedule, but I can share details with you about the next six Sundays.

To facilitate some experimentation this summer, we’re introducing Summer Special Sundays where we won’t have a traditional Sunday morning worship gathering format. There will still be a gathering, it will just look a bit different. The first one will be Sunday, June 16, which is Father’s Day. Stay tuned for details. The second one will be July 7, and we’re looking at adding an early evening Summer BBQ to kick off our Creation Care series which spans July & August.

I am excited about trying new things, and finding ways to be church to more people. I hope you’ll join me for the journey.

Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Matthew

Here’s what we have to look forward to:

Sunday, May 26
Mission Sunday Brunch

Mission Sundays are when we set aside time to focus on one of our core values: justice, inclusion, and family. These might be a special guided conversation, a visit from a guest speaker, a service project, or a group field trip. There is no live stream/church online on Mission Sundays.

May’s focus is Family. Thus, we’re gathering for brunch at Sammy’s Café #2 at 9030 Foothill Blvd. in Rancho Cucamonga at 10:30 AM. RSVP with Bryan so we can get a headcount for the restaurant.

Sunday, June 2
Inclusion Sunday

Each year, we set aside the month of June to celebrate those who are often marginalized by the church. We look at the stories from Scripture which focus on the themes of chosen family, inclusion, and more. Inclusion Sunday is a special day of celebration across denominations which lets others know of our intentional efforts to include everyone regardless of who they are and who they love.

Sunday, June 9
Sacred Place 5th Anniversary Celebration

Can you believe it’s been five years since we founded Sacred Place with our first gathering on June 9th at Jasper Elementary?! Join us as we celebrate the roller coaster ride that got us to where we are. It’s been a time of rooting ourselves and growing together as a faith family. There will be cupcakes and more as we give thanks for all that we have become. The party will start at 10:30 with music and fun. Join us for a time of sharing stories of what brought us to Sacred Place, from those who helped found our community to those who discovered it along the way.

Sunday, June 16
Summer Special Sunday

Details on this Sunday will come soon! This will be one of the Sundays we try something new. It’ll be a time of gathering and growing in community. There will be food!

Sunday, June 23
Mission Sunday: Inclusion

Save the day for our June Mission Sunday. We’ll share more about the plans in the coming weeks.

Sunday, June 30
Pride Sunday

On the last day of Pride Month, we’ll gather for a special celebration of those who identify LGBTQ+. We are all created to reflect the image of God in our unique ways. We hope to partner with others on this special Sunday.
