Summer is here!

Summer is here!

If yesterday’s temperatures are any indication—along with the calendar, of course—summer has definitely arrived.

This Sunday, we’ll conclude our Pride Month series, Re-Written, with a hopeful look toward the future, even in the shadow of empire. We’ll share in Communion as we break bread together at the table.

Then, on July 13, we begin our new summer series: Rooted in Resistance—A Sacred Rebellion. With a progressive lens on Revelation, we’ll explore how the text calls us to resist empire in times of oppression and injustice.

Below, I’ll outline the month of July for you plus any future save-the-dates which might be important.

I’m still catching up on emails—if you need a quick response, feel free to bump yours to the top of my inbox with a reply.

See you Sunday!
Pastor Matthew

July…and Beyond

Sunday, July 6 @ 11 AM — Rewritten for the Generations

As we close our Pride Month journey, we claim a hopeful, collective future. Even in exile, the prophet calls the people to build, plant, and seek the welfare of the city. God’s promise is not just personal — it’s generational.

Sunday, July 13 @ 11 AM — Rooted in Resistance

Our summer series begins with a question: What if Revelation isn’t about fear, but about clarity? Not about doom, but unveiling?

In John’s strange and powerful vision, Jesus walks among the lamps, holding the keys, calling us forward with grace and power.

Sunday, July 20 @ 11 AM — Revealing the Empire

Not all evil looks monstrous. Sometimes it wears the polished face of success, influence, and control. This week, we name the systems that exploit and consume—and we reclaim our clarity, courage, and compassion in response.

Sunday, July 27 @ 11 AM — Mission Sunday Brunch (In Person Only)

There will be no livestream or formal liturgy this week as we gather in person for a Mission Sunday brunch. We’ll break bread together, reflect on our summer series, and spend time in connection and community.

Rooted in Resistance continues through August 31.

This August at Sacred Place, we journey deeper into Rooted in Resistance—A Sacred Rebellion—a bold reimagining of Revelation as a call to sacred defiance and radical hope. From the Lamb who conquers by love to letters of challenge and encouragement, from a vision of a resilient multitude to the promise of a renewed world, each week invites us to see resistance not as rage or reactivity, but as faithfulness. Together, we’ll explore what it means to follow the Spirit’s leading through worship, justice, tenderness, and collective courage—all the way to the river of life.

We begin a new, linear journey through Scripture on Sunday, September 7.

This year, the themes will align with the Gospel according to John—always an interesting perspective.

Mark your calendars—September 7 is our Fall Kickoff, and we can’t wait to share what’s ahead.
