Sacred Slow Down
Quick Notes for this Sunday, July 14
@ 11 AM - Creation Care, Week 2 + Christmas in July Sunday [online church link]
@ 5 PM - Summer Picnic [details including directions + signup]
This week has been wild. As I sit down to write this and think back on all of the things that have happened this week, I realize that I feel like I’ve been moving for 7 days (even when I’m sitting still). Every day I’ve been franticly going through the motions of getting things done; up early on the go, only to fall into bed totally depleted. Just to get up and do it all again tomorrow. I know that we can all relate to that in some ways.
So right now, I’m choosing to stop. I’m choosing to take a breath and remember the things that matter.
In the midst of all the stuff, what are some of the wonderful things that have happened this week? Have you been able to see the sunrise, or the sunset? Have you spoken to a friend or loved one? Have you heard that one song that makes you smile a little, or that you sing loudly and off key when no one else is around? Can you stop for a second and say; “it’s okay, just for a minute, to be still”?
Thanks for being here. Thanks for being part of Sacred Place and for the ways you make this place sacred for me. Whether you’re here in person on Sundays, you watch our gatherings online, or you choose to read these emails that get sent out once a week (ish), I just want to say that I’m glad that you’re here.
Updates From Around Us
There are some things happening that we want you to know about:
Rancho Cucamonga
On June 30 we dropped off 10 backpacks full of school supplies to the community center in Rancho Cucamonga. Crystal, the Community Services Coordinator, said that with our donation, they were able to fulfill all of the requests on their waitlist. Thank you for your generosity, because it makes a difference for the people who need it.
Rancho Cucamonga’s Family Campout is happening at Heritage Park on October 12 and 13. We are thinking of reserving a table space there to let people know who we are and where we’re at. If you’re interested in more information on the campout, or if you’d be interested in helping us host a table, email Bryan
Sacred Story Hour
Our first Sacred Story Hour was last Sunday from 6 to 7 PM. We shared stories of pride. Hearing our stories helped us to get to know each other better. We’re doing it again on August 4 at 6 PM. Our story theme will be announced in a couple of weeks. Please join us if you like stories, like to tell stories, want to hear stories, or want to talk about why stories are important. It will be fun!
Centering Prayer
Many of us have heard the scriptures “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10, and “In [God] we live and move and have our being,” (Acts 17:28). Have you ever wondered what those things mean? How do we “be still” in a world that always seems to keep us running? What does it mean to be “in God”, and how exactly do we live and move in that meaning? Those are some of the questions that Centering Prayer seeks to answer. Join us starting in August as we explore these questions and start to look for answers together. Our start date will be announced soon. If you have questions, reach out.
Pomona Valley Pride
THIS SATURDAY our friends PVP are hosting their 5th Anniversary Celebration. All are welcome. The details can be found on their website or Instagram page.
July 20, PVP’s Healthy Movements group is going on a nature walk at Chino Creek Wetlands. If you’re available, this might be a way to get to know some new folks and experience the idea of our series on Creation Care in a different way.
We’re Here For You
As always, we want to hear from you. If you have questions, comments or ideas, don’t hesitate to text, call, or email. In the coming weeks we’ll also begin to set aside some specific hours during the week for drop-ins or appointments. Our goal is for Sacred Place to be a place where we gather, build community and deepen relationships with the people who come through. As our friendships deepen, we also become better equipped to serve our community.
