It Feels Like Fall…in the Mornings at Least

After a crazy hot week/weekend things are finally cooling off a bit. Mornings are lovely! The air quality from the fires is improving a bit. It's nice out. It's starting to feel like Fall, which officially arrives next Sunday, but we're starting a week earlier.

That's right, this Sunday is our Fall Kickoff when we will start a new journey through the entirety of Scripture picking up the threads which tie things all together, as we head toward a winter and spring in the Gospel according to Luke. We will spend time in the Hebrew texts with the things Luke references later, so that when we get to them, they will be familiar in the ways they would have been to the first readers of Luke's writings. We begin with Abram and Sarai this week, later known as Abraham and Sarah. Our series is called Promises Unfolding and I am really looking forward to it. We start at 11 AM with refreshments and refreshing conversation beginning at 10:30 AM.

I hope to see you this Sunday in-person or online.

Please enjoy your weekend!
—Pastor Matthew

Teach Us How to Pray

Beginning in October, Sacred Place will be offering an event that's part book club and part practical study on the practice of Centering Prayer. We will be reading the book Intimacy With God, An Introduction to Centering Prayer, by Thomas Keating. Prayer isn't just about the list of worries and anxious moments in our lives that we ask God to fix. Prayer is an opportunity to learn to quiet the internal and external stuff that crowds in on us every day, and to find peace in this moment, right now, where we are. Dates and times will be announced soon. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Community Events

Our friends at Claremont Presbyterian Church are sponsoring a social justice oriented workshop in September and October. Rev. Vikki Randall, D.Min. (she, her), Founding Pastor of Haven Fellowship San Gabriel Valley will be leading the discussion.  Click here to register

Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga's annual holiday food drives are coming soon. This year, sacred place has committed to providing at least 20 holiday food baskets for the program. Keep in mind that there will be opportunities to give in November and December. Flyers will be available in the next few weeks detailing needed items, collection dates, and distribution dates. I'll pass them along as soon as I have them.

Pomona Valley Pride

Pomona Valley Pride's Annual Gayla fundraiser is coming soon. For the last few years we've been working with PVP, and they are doing wonderful work in the community. The Gayla is a great opportunity to meet people, raise money and celebrate all of the work PVP has done in the LGBTQIA+ community. Some of us will be going. If you want more information email me.

Additionally, for the last year, Sacred Place has been working with PVP as part of their PRISM Collective. Some PRISM is a collective of local area churches and other spiritual organizations committed to providing support to spiritual seekers in the queer community. Right now the group is in transition and we are asking collectively; "What's next?' How do we want to move forward into next year and what kinds of events and services should we plan or seek to provide?

PRISM Program Survey If you click this link you will be taken to a 3 minute survey that will help us plan for the future of the PRISM program. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me here.

Riverside Interfaith Council

The Riverside Interfaith Council is a collective of faith based organizations committed to fostering communication, understanding, and cooperation between people of different faith expressions. They have two upcoming events this month.
