Healthcare as Justice: Rooted in Resistance, Living in Action

Healthcare as Justice: Rooted in Resistance, Living in Action

Dear Sacred Place Family,

This Sunday, August 31, we close our Rooted in Resistance summer series with a Mission Sunday focused on justice.Instead of our usual liturgy, we’ll gather in conversation and reflection around an issue close to my heart: healthcare as a matter of justice.

Access to care, dignity in treatment, and the right to live with wholeness and hope are not just policy questions—they are gospel questions. Together we’ll explore what it means to follow Jesus in a world where health is too often determined by wealth, and where many are left behind by systems that should heal.

But Mission Sundays are not only about reflection—they are about putting faith into action. This week I will also introduce a new quarterly initiative called Letters for Justice. Our first campaign will support the city’s Holiday Food Drive.

Last year, the program was underfunded, leaving families on a waitlist without meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year, we want to help change that. Instead of only donating ourselves, we will each invite others—friends, neighbors, or local businesses—to join us as donors and sponsors. Imagine the impact if every person at Sacred Place brought in just one more donor. Together, we could help erase the waitlist so every family has food on their table.

Join us this Sunday as we share stories, ask hard questions, and take the first steps into this new season of multiplying justice and hope.

With gratitude,
Bryan

Coming Next Month—
Fall series begins September 7: Echoes of the Call

From the beginning, God has spoken—through wind and word, flame and silence, wilderness and wonder. This fall we’ll listen for those echoes: in stories of beginnings and becoming (Creation, Abraham and Sarah, Jacob’s ladder, Moses, Samuel), we’ll hear how God’s voice meets us where we are and calls us into lives of justice, love, and sacred presence. These aren’t just ancient stories; they’re invitations to listen, to respond, and to trust that the call still echoes—even now.
